EU integration – Moldova’s irreversible choice

The European Policy Centre, in cooperation with the Romanian Center for European Policies (CRPE) and the Foreign Policy Association (APE), is delighted to invite you to a Policy Dialogue, on EU integration – Moldova’s irreversible choice, on Wednesday 11 December 2013, 15.00-18.00 (registration from 14.45), at Résidence Palace, Maelbeek Room, 155 Rue de la Loi, Brussels 1040.

As one of the two partner countries of the EU to initial an Association Agreement at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, the Republic of Moldova is at a key stage in its European integration process. While Moldova’s reform efforts have been praised by its European partners, recent developments have also shown that the country’s European path can be affected by geopolitical rivalries playing out in Eastern Europe. With general elections coming up in the autumn of 2014, important developments in its relations with the EU and complicated relations with Russia, Moldova faces a crucial year.

This event marks the launch of the EU-Moldova Think Tank Dialogue - a new project that provides a platform for the exchange of expertise on EU-Moldova relations – as well as the publication of a policy paper assessing the prospects for Moldova’s European integration post-Vilnius. Speakers will review the state of EU-Moldova relations after Vilnius. Taking part in the debate will be :

Bogdan Aurescu, Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania
Iulian Groza, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova
Dirk Schuebel, Head of Division Eastern Partnership – bilateral, European External Action Service
Dirk-Jan Kop, Special Envoy for Eastern Partnership, Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Vaidotas Verba, Ambassador-at-large for the Eastern Partnership, Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Cristian Ghinea, Director, Romanian Center for European Policies
Victor Chirila, Executive Director, Foreign Policy Association
Kamil Całus, Expert, Centre for Eastern Studies, Warsaw
Amanda Paul, EPC Policy Analyst and Programme Executive, will chair the debate.
